9 Best Copywriting Tips for Website conversion

9 best copywriting tips for website conversion

1. Choose your Audience

When writing copy for your website, you need to know who you are talking to.

This is because each audience interprets information in their own way and responds differently depending on the language used.

For example, if I was writing for a tech company that offers software solutions then my tone of voice would be more informational than light heated as people working in this industry generally appreciate facts over humour.

2. Write with clarity

When it comes to successful web content, clear communication is vital!

People want to understand what they read without having to work hard at it or have things repeated back to them.

It can also help improve search engine optimization (SEO) rankings by using keywords effectively throughout the text where appropriate – just go overboard!.

Ensure that any abbreviations are defined, that jargon is explained and if you can’t understand what’s written then neither will your audience.

3. Be friendly

Your website copy needs to be conversational without being informal or overly casual.

You should aim for a tone somewhere between formal and slang but not so far one way or the other that it makes them uncomfortable!

It doesn’t matter how technical your products may be; people want to feel like they’re engaging with another human on the other side of their screen – just don’t go overboard either!.

Keep in mind that most web users identify as introverts rather than extroverts so try using shorter sentences instead of long ones where possible along with subheaders to break up content into smaller chunks.

4. Improve readability

When writing website copy, it has to be easy on the eye.

People will not want to spend time reading text that they don’t understand or is difficult for them to process so if you start getting frustrated with what you are writing then chances are your audience is going to have a similar reaction!

Keep sentences short and use larger font sizes where appropriate as well as plenty of white space between paragraphs – this makes content easier on the eyes which means people stay longer!.

Use subheaders liberally throughout articles but keep them relevant too otherwise they become annoying rather than helpful!

Also, make sure any bullet points list items in logical order i.e. most important at the top, least important at the bottom.

5. Build trust through Credibility

When writing web copy, it’s important to establish credibility early on.

If you put your best foot forward from the start and try to make yourself appear as an expert in your field then this will help people trust what is written more – ultimately leading them down the path of conversion!

Include testimonials or case studies about companies that use your products and services if possible; they’re a great way for others to see how effective your company can be too.

6. Be Personable

Your website content should engage visitors like nothing else before.

However, there needs to be a balance between providing information and making things interesting enough so that users want to continue reading rather than clicking off elsewhere!

Having said that though, don’t go overboard either by trying too hard to make things sound interesting or funny.

Aim for a friendly, approachable tone rather than one that is too casual which comes across as unprofessional.

7. Use Benefits

Although you will want to describe how your products and services work in-depth when writing website content, it’s also important to include the benefits of using them!

People are more likely to come back if they can see why your company would be beneficial over alternatives so try playing into this psychology where possible with phrases like “benefit from XXXX” instead of just describing what something does.

8. Choose Your Words Carefully

When writing copy for websites, choosing the optimal words is essential!

You need to avoid repeating yourself whenever possible but at the same time ensure everything is described in detail without going overboard either.

You should also be trying to avoid using words that are too generic or could apply to any company like “great”, “amazing” etc.

9. Be clear

Your website content needs to explain exactly what you do while still being interesting and engaging enough so people don’t want to stop reading!

If they can get the gist of your message from a quick glance at your homepage then chances are they’ll stay on longer which will increase conversions yet if it takes them ages just to understand why there is value in what you have written then this causes problems for both parties.

Be sure not to use certain phrases such as ‘click here’ where possible because although many web users tend towards introversion these days, they still don’t like being told what to do!

Bones Tips

  • Keep sentences short. It is easier to read shorter, more concise sentences than long ones. No one wants to read a wall of text, so keep it simple and easy-to-read with some variation between sentence length
  • Use benefit-driven language that clearly addresses the needs of your audience by using words like “helps” or “provides” instead of just describing how something works without explaining why they should care about it at all. This will help you create copy that speaks
  • Don’t be afraid to use strong verbs in place of generic nouns (i.e., start vs begin, help vs support, etc.).
  • Remember not every piece of content you write has to be a masterpiece – it’s okay if some things don’t turn out as well as others because everyone writes poorly sometimes (that includes me too). Just do your best and put everything through multiple rounds of editing before publishing so there aren’t any serious mistakes!
  • Use bullet points sparingly and only when necessary for making a specific point or argument (i.e., not just listing benefits). If you are using bullets, be sure to use them in moderation and edit out any that don’t add value to the copy itself!
  • Always make sure your copy is grammatically correct. It’s okay to use contractions every now and then but only when appropriate for the tone of your audience.
